As it celebrates vessels of yesteryear, the Door County Maritime Museum's Classic and Wooden Boat Show is becoming vintage itself.
With fiberglass boats of the Jet Age as its focus, the Classic and Wooden Boat Show is celebrating its 35th year. The colorful, post-World War II watercraft inspired by 1950s automotive and aerospace design will be among the dozens of boats guests can admire during the two-day event.
The Classic and Wooden Boat Show also features a boathouse sale, U.S. Coast Guard demonstrations, food and beverages, and Sunday's Sikaflex Build-a-Boat Contest. Just as the classic and wooden boats that will fill the museum grounds on Saturday and Sunday have stood the test of time, Door County Maritime Museum Deputy Director Sam Perlman says so has the festival that celebrates them.
The Classic and Wooden Boat Show is just one part of a busy slate of activities during Sturgeon Bay Maritime Week. Other events include the Door County Mariner Honors Dinner and sail races at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club, the Salute to the Coast Guard Golf Outing, a special military-themed Concert in the Park, and the U.S. Coast Guard Picnic.
