Bruce H. Dombrowski, 73 years of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at his
home on Friday April 12, 2024.
He was born June 7, 1950, in Cicero, IL, the son of Bruno and Anna
Mae Dombrowski. Bruce entered the United States Army early with
permission of his father and served two tours of combat in Vietnam. On
June 10, 1976, he married Susan Anne Milkent. They moved to Door
County for Bruce’s employment at Baileys Harbor Yacht Club as chef.
He has also worked for The Lodge at Leathem Smith, C and C Supper Club
in Fish Creek, and Dunham’s Sporting Goods in Sturgeon Bay.
Bruce was a movie buff, accumulating a vast collection of various
genres. He had a great interest in Westerns and John Wayne and Sinatra
specifically.
Surviving family includes his wife, Susan “Sam” of Sturgeon Bay;
stepdaughter, Kelly of San Jose, CA; five grandchildren; one great-
grandchild; brother, Barry (Jeannie) Dombrowski of Memphis, TN; and
his sister, Bonnie of Worth, IL.
Preceding Bruce in death were his parents; and brother, Brian.
There will be no public service.

Darryl J. Rohrer, 64, of Washington Island, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024 at his home. He was born July 3, 1959 in Fontana, California, son of the late Donald Gene and Pearl Minnie Rohrer. He graduated from Lanphier High School in Springfield, Illinois. He then attended Eastern Illinois University, where he obtained his master’s degree in School Psychology. On August 4, Darryl married the love of his life, Annie Wittrock at Faith Lutheran Church in Mundelein, IL. The two raised four children and created countless memories which provide an endless source of inspiration to his family. Darryl worked as a School Psychologist for Hononegah Community School District in Rockton, Illinois, for 35 years, where he supported students and their families and was beloved among his colleagues. In his time at Hononegah, he was the advisor to the Gay-Straight Alliance club, advisor of the Freshman Mentor Program, and was the Girls Cross Country Coach for over 10 seasons. His students and athletes remember him as an advocate, an ally, and a constant source of support. Upon Darryl’s retirement in 2021, he and Annie moved and made their home on Washington Island, a dream they shared since their honeymoon in 1984. He was a proud member of the Washington Island Lions club, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and loved his part time jobs at the Washington Island Ferry Line, Williams Tree Farm, and Elegant Foods. He loved delivering Meals on Wheels and especially making genuine connections with island folks. He found a new passion for making maple syrup and took great joy in the natural beauty of the island. He continued to run with his dog, Luna, and ride his bike long distances with friends and his children. Darryl measured wealth in relationships and, by this measure, very proudly considered himself the richest person in the world. To him, no one was a stranger - he loved meeting new people and making new friends. His family and friends were the most important part of his life. They continue to count his riches and extend their deepest heartfelt gratitude to everyone who was lucky enough to know him. Darryl will be missed by his loving wife, Annie, and children, Daniel (Kyli Marshall), Matthew (Karen Jones), Benjamin (Michelle Kim), and Elliott (Kim Schlesinger), as well as his sisters, Diana Paidra (Phil), and Debra Hensen (Bruce). Darryl’s life will be celebrated in a memorial service on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 12:00 p.m. Visitation for friends and family will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Ruby A. Pichette, 89, Algoma, a cherished mother, passed away on April 12, 2024, in Green Bay, WI. She was born on December 14, 1934, in Door County, Wisconsin, to the late Alphonse and Pearl (Leeman) Hegnet. Ruby married Clifford Pichette on May 29, 1954, at St. Mary’s in Algoma. He preceded her in death on September 16, 2006. Ruby lived a life filled with simple pleasures and genuine kindness. Hardworking and dedicated. Ruby will be remembered for her love of yardwork, tending to her garden, and admiring blooming flowers. She found solace in nature, often taking peaceful walks and enjoying the sight of animals in the backyard. Word searches and games of Bingo brought her joy, showing her playful spirit and sharp mind. But perhaps what defined Ruby most was her innate desire to lend a helping hand to those in need, a quality that touched the lives of many. Ruby is survived by her children, Dan (Mary) Pichette, Dale Pichette, David Pichette, Steve (Char) Pichette, and Andy (Diane) Pichette; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Watermolen, Rosie Pichette; as well as by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford; sons, John Paul and Bill Pichette; grandson, Jason Tweedy; parents, Alphonse and Pearl Hegnet, brothers and sisters; daughters-in-law, Tina Pichette, and Judith Pichette. Friends and family are invited to honor Ruby's life at her funeral mass and visitation, to be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Algoma on April 20, 2024. Patricia (Pat) H Waldron, 66, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on April 10, 2024, at her beloved home in Jacksonport, with her loving family by her side. She was born June 29, 1957, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Richard and Florence (Callaghan) Hyland. Pat grew up in the Beverly neighborhood on the south side of Chicago attending Christ the King primary school and later graduating from Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School with the class of 1975. Upon graduation from high school Pat attended Bryman School where she received her Medical Assistant Certification. In 1978, Pat decided to head out west to grow up with the country, landing in Denver where she worked as a lab technician for the Bureau of Reclamation. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Tony, and together they took off on a 6-month backpacking trip in Europe, becoming engaged in Ireland. On December 30, 1981, they were united in marriage at Christ the King Church in Chicago. They began their life together in Fort Collins, Colorado where Pat put Tony through college while working for the Social Security Administration for 10 years. During that time, they purchased a small farm in Keenesburg, Colorado, where they would live for the next 30 years while raising their family. Pat was an entrepreneur at heart and started and operated several businesses throughout her life including a licensed daycare facility, a food catering business, and managing HyWal Farms with her family. In 1998, she went to work as a flight attendant for United Airlines where she worked for 10 years. Pat was on one of the last flights before the 9/11 tragedy occurred and was on the first wave of flights after this horrible event. Upon her retirement from United in 2010, she started an Organizing Business (before it was hip) and operated it until her retirement. One of her organizing encounters led her to her last job when she became the office manager at Pawnee Buttes Seed in Greeley, CO until her retirement in 2019. In 2016, Pat and Tony began their search for a retirement home in Door County, WI. In 2018, Pat found her dream home and they moved to Door County officially in 2019. It brought her much joy and peace to be able to spend her final days on the shores of Lake Michigan. Pat had an incredible green thumb and it showed in her beautiful house plants and gardens throughout the years. She was also an avid bird watcher and observer of astronomical events. Pat had a beautiful singing voice and pitch perfect hearing and rhythm. After years of suffering, she finally convinced her not so rhythmic husband to take up ballroom dancing lessons in 2010. They enjoyed this activity immensely until her passing. Of all her varied careers, her greatest achievement was raising her three children, giving them roots and wings, and watching them become productive citizens. They were all at her side during her passing. Pat will be missed by her devoted husband, Anthony "Tony"; daughters, Emily Waldron (Elise) of Cortez, CO; Sarah (Justin) Feld, grandson James Feld of Washburn, ND; son, Conor (Courtney) Waldron, granddaughter Chesney Waldron, grandson Wayne Waldron; sisters, Mary Ann Rowan, Nancy (Wil) Lawrence; brothers, Richard "Dick" (Kathy) Hyland, Christopher "Chris" Hyland, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Hyland; brother-in-law, John Rowan; sister-in-law, Dianne Hyland; brother-in-law, David Waldron. Thelma Walker, 99, of Sturgeon Bay passed away April 7, 2024, with family and friends by her side. She was born October 8, 1924, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin to Norwegian and German immigrants, Gustave and Frieda Forland. Thelma attended school in the Sturgeon Bay area, starting at Silverdale Elementary School and graduating from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1942. She attended Lutheran Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois graduating in 1945 with a Registered Nurse degree. During nurses training, Thelma was a Cadet Nurse at Mayo General Hospital in Galesburg, Ill. After receiving her RN degree, she worked for several years at Madison General Hospital Madison, Wisconsin. Thelma married Thomas J. Walker on May 24, 1947; they were married 36 years before his passing in 1984. Although Thelma lived the majority of her life in Sturgeon Bay, she also lived in Green Bay for a time where she made many good friends. Thelma was a homemaker and raised 5 children. She loved and appreciated art, books, gardening, music, theater, quilting and couldn’t resist picking up a really great rock from the beach. Over the years, Thelma volunteered for many community events and causes. She was recognized for her quilting and needlecraft work, making banners for events and local churches. She was a member of Hope Church, the PEO Sisterhood, and the Miller Art Center. Thelma was proud of her heritage and was a member of the Sons of Norway. She learned the art of Rosemaling, following in the steps of her great-grandfather. Her familial roots were deep within Door County which led her to be a member of the Door County Historical Society. She shared her knowledge with the community through cemetery walks, volunteer work and casual conversation. Survivors include, her children, Steve Walker of Madison, Wisconsin and Sturgeon Bay, Scott Walker of Sturgeon Bay, Kris (Dave) Walker-Widby of Anchorage, Alaska, Anne-Marie (David) Schwarz of Clearwater, Florida. Grandchildren: Alex Walker, Brett Walker, Erin (Widby) McGregor, Alyssa Widby, Emma Schwarz and Zoe Schwarz, Great-grandchild: Madison McGregor, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Heinz Radtke of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Ruth Lomberg and Evelyn Winkler of Seal Beach California, husband Tom Walker, and son Daniel Walker of Galveston, Texas. Thelma was also preceded in death by her dear friend Dr. Clyde ‘Hap’ Smith, whose friendship she cherished.    Evelyn Ann (Wilke) Ploor, 103 of Sturgeon Bay, passed away peacefully late Tuesday evening, April 9, 2024.

     Evelyn was born December 17, 1920 in the Town of Forestville to August and Lydia (Diefenbach) Wilke. They moved to the Town of Sevastopol where she started school and graduated in the class of 1938. Evelyn worked as a nanny for the Kellner family after graduation. She married Wilfred Joseph Ploor on June 3, 1942 at S.S. Peter & Paul Rectory in Institute. They farmed on Ploor Road in the Town of Sevastopol. Besides helping out on the farm, she also worked in the cherry factories. In January of 1963, she started work at Sevastopol Schools as a cook and retired from there in 1987. They enjoyed dances at Fernwood Gardens and playing sheepshead with several groups of friends. Wilfred passed away on March 21, 1990. Evelyn was a good cook and baker and she made each of her grandchildren a denim patch quilt. In 1995, she moved from the farm to a house in Sturgeon Bay and in 2022 moved to Pine Crest Assisted Living.

     Evelyn is survived by four children, Tom (Pat) Ploor of Sturgeon Bay, Charlene Mueller of Egg Harbor, Marilyn (Norman) Sissom of Manchester, TN, and Randall (Sue) Ploor of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Dennis (Ann) Ploor, Michael (Melissa) Ploor, Jeffrey (Penny) Ploor, Michelle (Tom) Fellin, Michael (Stacey Mortvedt) Mueller, Mark (Cambria) Mueller, Brian (Jennifer) Sissom, Eric Sissom, Derek (Ivy) Ploor and Trina (Michael) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Demi, Mya, Sara, Emma, Cody (Emma), Brendan (Rhiannon) Ploor, and Connor and Tucker Mueller; and nieces and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son-in-law, Herbert Mueller; and brothers, Melvin (Virginia) Wilke, Harold (Evelyn) Wilke; sisters, Adeline (Frank) Arbter, Mabel (Richard) Sternard, Emily (Aloysius) Ploor, Lucille (Nels) Nelson, and Jeanette (Donald) Mann; brothers-in-law, Sylvester (Harriet) Ploor, Walter Ploor, Aloysius (Emily) Ploor; and sister-in-law, Beatryce (Norman) Jacobson.

     Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Institute with Fr. Matthew Rappl officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery beside her husband, Wilfred.

     Visitation for family and friends will be at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

Cheryl Jome, 72, of Forestville, passed away on April 9, 2024, after a brief illness. She was born Sept. 23, 1951, in Algoma to Sylvester and Jean (Toppe) Jome. Cheryl was a 1969 graduate of Southern Door High School. Throughout her work career, she was employed by the Southern Door School System, the Production Credit Association, Uecker Implement in Forestville, and the Ebbeson Law Office. She ended her career as the Clerk of Courts Office at the Door County Justice Center, retiring in 2016. She is survived by a brother, Mark (Doris) Jome, Franklin, WI; 2 nieces, Lauren (Andy) Miller, Hartland, WI, and Lisa Jome (Fiancé, Andrew Susedik), Franklin, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, April 15, 2024, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Forestville. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Ervin Louis Cornette, 84, of Forestville passed away on April 8, 2024, with his family by his side. He was born January 10, 1940, in Red River to Louis and Blanche (Jeanquart) Cornette. Erv served his country in the U. S. Army from 1963-1965. After serving in the army, he met Clarice Englebert and married her on October 8, 1966, in Brussels. Together they bought a farm in the Town of Forestville and raised 5 children. Erv also worked at Bay Ship Building until his retirement in 2002. Erv’s greatest passion in life was farming. He loved being outdoors, working on the farm and with the animals. He also enjoyed hunting, and playing cards. He especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his five children, Jackie Hoeckendorff (Jay Neinas), Jodi Rass (Michael Bertrand); Jill (Jerry) Kaye, Jayne Hayes (William Hayes), Jesse Cornette (Courtney Weidner). 13 grandchildren, Brandon (Kyla), Levi (Cassie), Austin (Jessica), Roy, Dylan (Jessica), Mercedes (Dylan), Joey (Abigail), KelsyAnn (Michael), Kameron (Alyssa),Dakoda, Marshall, Tucker, Emma, Madelyn, Phoenix, and Selma; 16 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jaydyn, Trevyn, Fayth, Ashyr, Mila, Sawyer, Weston, Layton, Kolt, Zoey, Madison, Sophie, Logan, Mia and one “on the way”; one sister Linda Kinnard and two brothers, Leland (Carol) Cornette and Wayne (Diane) Cornette and his faithful dog Blue. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Clarice; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Evelyn Jennerjohn; a sister, Nancy Brown and an infant sister. Nancy “Nan” Ann Krause, 91, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 1, 2024 after a slow decline these past years and a brief illness the past months.

Nan was born November 9, 1932 in Wausau, the daughter of William and Eleanor (Gehrke) Pautz. On July 9, 1955, Nan married Gerald “Jerry” A. Krause, a lifelong friend who actually visited her in the hospital when she was born. Family was so very important and precious to Nan. She was blessed by God becoming a mom with the birth of Timothy J. Krause in 1958. Second-born was Andrew K. Krause in 1960 and Elizabeth A. Krause arrived in 1963. Nan has five granddaughters and five great-grandchildren and one on the way!

Nan graduated from Wausau High School in 1949, attended one year at the University of Wisconsin-Wausau Extension, three years at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Education degree K-4 Elementary Education, and she earned a master’s degree in Special Education-Learning Disabilities K-12 in 1976.

Nan served enthusiastically as a pastor’s wife in the Wisconsin towns and cities of Stockbridge, Ripon, Edgerton, Oshkosh, Sun Prairie, Beloit, and Rockford (IL) where Jerry served as a United Methodist pastor and on the Wisconsin United Methodist Conference Staff. She taught Sunday School, was involved in Women’s Circle, sang in church choirs, and served people in many other ways. Nan thrived in her work as a teacher of second grade for two years in Appleton, WI, third grade for two years in Skokie, IL and one year in Chilton, a Title One teacher in Sun Prairie, and a special education – learning disability teacher and specialist in Beloit. After 25 years of teaching in public schools, she retired in 1995 and moved to Sturgeon Bay, WI.

In Door County, Nan, along with Jerry and brother and sister-in-law Don and Ann Stannard, ran a small fruit orchard selling cherries and apples at local famer markets. Nan loved genealogy and family history research. She served at the Heritage Village at Crossroads at Big Creek as a living history interpreter. She was active with the Door County Historical Society, the Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church, and the local PEO chapter. Other interests include writing, travel, Elderhostels, reading, gardening, playing bridge, and other games, cooking, and having time with friends and family.

Nan’s love will live on in the hearts of her children, Timothy “Tim” (Elizabeth Babler) Krause of Beloit, WI, Andrew “Andy” (Barbara) Krause of Menomonie, WI, Elizabeth “Beth” (Steven) Pugh currently of Minneola, FL; five grandchildren, Leah and Joanna both of Menomonie, Sarah (Michael) Newland [and their sons August and Ari] of Minneapolis, MN, Caroline (Gabe) Walker [and their daughters Madi and Ellie] of Columbia Heights, MN, Kristen (Luke) Bergman [and their daughter, Olivia and one on the way] of Maple Grove, MN; and brother and sister-in-law, Don and Ann Stannard of Hudson, WI; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Jerry (2020).

Nancy’s life will be honored with a funeral service held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church with Rev. David Leistra officiating. Lenora (“Nora”) Louise (nee Flahive) Joseph, age 84, passed away peacefully in Chicago, Illinois on March 13, 2024. Nora was predeceased by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Robert (“Bob”) Joseph. Nora is survived by her five adoring children: Robert (“Bob”) [Liz] Joseph, Elizabeth (“Betsy”) Joseph, Jennifer (“Jenny”) [Edd] Lopez, James (“Jim”) [Jeannie] Joseph and Jason [Mary] Joseph as well as her ten beloved grandchildren: Jimmy Joseph, Jessica Joseph, Liam Lopez, Jason [Maddie] Joseph, Lilia Lopez, Lucy Joseph, Josh Joseph, Kelly Joseph, George Joseph and Katie Joseph. Nora graduated from Albany State College of Education and taught English and social studies in New York before raising her family in Hoffman Estates IL. Nora and Bob retired to Fish Creek, WI in 1995, where they enjoyed golfing at Maxwelton Golf Club, gardening, and dining at the many supper clubs throughout Door County. Nora, an avid reader, would go to the Fish Creek Library once a week with a large tote bag and check out as many books as would fit into the tote bag and return the following week, ready for more! Nora loved feeding the squirrels, chipmunks and birds that would frequent their large backyard. She had a passion for writing and art and was quite creative. Her favorite times were when her children and grandchildren would visit and gather together in her home. Their lovely blue house on Highland Road was filled to the brim with love. Nora and Bob moved back to the Chicagoland area in 2019. When Bob passed away, Nora was warmly welcomed into her daughter Betsy’s home where Betsy lovingly became Nora's primary caretaker. Nora's love will forever live on in the hearts of her children and grandchildren. Services will be private.      Mary Sue Schranz, 65, of the Town of Sturgeon Bay, was born to eternal life on Friday, March 29, 2024 after a four year battle with endometrial cancer.

     She was born on September 28, 1958 in Crystal Lake, IL to Frederick and Joyce (Hendricks) Schranz. The family moved to Waukesha, WI in 1960. Mary graduated from Waukesha North High School in 1976 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1980 with a B.A. degree in Finance and Administrative Management. After working for General Electric Credit Corporation and Marine Bank, N.A., Mary pursued studies at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, graduating with a Ph.D. in Economics in 1988.

     Mary spent 25 years teaching economics and finance at several universities and colleges including Hunter College (CUNY) in New York, New York, Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Madison Area Technical College, both in Madison, WI. Mary also taught a short course in finance at Vidzemes University College in Valmiera, Latvia in 2002. She published her research in the professional journals Journal of Political Economy and Financial Management and reviewed several textbooks.

     Mary traveled extensively beginning with family camping trips throughout the United States and Canada, and eventually visited 17 countries. She especially enjoyed meeting relatives in Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland. Mary maintained an avid interest in genealogy and family history throughout her life. She briefly served as a substitute organist at Tanum Forest Lutheran Church in the Town of Clay Banks, Sturgeon Bay, WI. Mary also served for several years on the boards of the Shiloh Church Lot and Cemetery Association in Sturgeon Bay and the Welsh Club of the Milwaukee Area.

     Surviving family include her mother, Joyce E. Schranz and sister, Ann M. Schranz, both of Sturgeon Bay. She will also be missed by many cousins and friends.

     Preceding her in death were her father, Frederick P. Schranz; paternal grandparents, Frederick and Ida Schranz; and her maternal grandparents, Henry and Lulu Hendricks.

     A funeral service honoring the life of Mary will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Peter Mannoja officiating. Burial will be made in Ottawa Cemetery near Dousman, WI on the family lot.  

     Friends may call at Huehns Funeral Home on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. 

     In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the charity of your choice.

Joseph Pongratz, 90 years of Egg Harbor, passed away Wednesday morning, March 27, 2024, at Sturgeon Bay Health Services.

He was born October 22, 1933, in Milwaukee the son of German immigrants, Joseph and Rosina (Eckmueller) Pongratz. Joseph served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for many years with Delta Airlines in customer service until his retirement. In retirement, Joseph moved to Door County where he enjoyed the outdoors and the fellowship with the residents there. He was very proud of his German heritage.

Joseph attended Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. He enjoyed hunting, cars, and road trips. Joe enjoyed visiting many of the local establishments including one of his favorites, The Log Den in Egg Harbor where he met many who became good friends. He looked forward to the next person he would meet and have a good visit with.

He will be missed by all his friends and neighbors, Dan and Patti Lautenbach, Jim and Cheryl Bevins, Dan and Jan Lautenbach, Les and Jeanette Lautenbach, Wayne and Diane Lautenbach, Cal and Katie Lautenbach, Steve and Kim Bell, and so many others that gave joy and importance to Joseph’s life.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and brother, Louis Pongratz.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday evening, April 2, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at Huehns Funeral Home with Rev. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m.

Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee alongside his parents.

On the morning of March 25, 2024 we lost a “Fantastic” man, Alvin Eichler.

     Al was born on January 28, 1931 in Milwaukee to the late Michael and Emma (Runge) Eichler.

     He was married for 66 years to his wife, Sherrill (Petersen) Eichler; dad to Lori (Howard) Leppen, Lunette Eichler, Allan Eichler (deceased) and Becky (Patrick) Clayton; grandfather to Nicole, and Everett; great-grandfather to Logan; and brother to Beulah Star.

     Al graduated with a metallurgical engineering degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1954. He was a member and officer in American Society for Metals, JCs, Kangaroo Lake Association (member and board member), and was a Ridges Sanctuary volunteer—voted as Volunteer of the Year in 2005.

     A celebration of life will be held at a later date at which time everyone is encouraged to wear Bucky Badger attire or red and white at Al’s request. Service date and time will be announced.

Marjorie Rose Krueger, of Sturgeon Bay, celebrated her 81st birthday with her parents in Heaven on March 24, 2024. She passed away the previous night at Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay.

Marjorie was born March 24, 1943 in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of Waldo Frank Krueger and Viola Erna Bertha (Lenius) Krueger. She grew up on the family homestead in the Town of Sturgeon Bay. Marjorie attended Wilson Elementary School and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School. She and her family were very active in the Sawyer Methodist Church. While Marjorie may have been considered “legally-blind,” she preferred the wording, “visually impaired” and never let that define her life.

In 1962, she began working as a medical transcriptionist at Theda Clark Hospital. Marjorie worked there for over 30 years. During those years, she bought a home near the hospital where she loved to garden. Marjorie loved Neenah, and when she retired from Theda Clark, she remained active in the community. She volunteered at the Thompson Center in Appleton working with adults with disabilities. Marjorie was instrumental in getting auditory signals at crosswalks installed in Neenah to assist the visually impaired. She often enjoyed going to the Wisconsin Lions Camp in the summer. Marjorie’s deep faith was the foundation for her life and led her to become an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Neenah. She loved music and had a beautiful alto voice.

In 2016, Marjorie moved to Pine Crest Village in Sturgeon Bay to be near her brother, Rod. She grew to make several good friends at Pine Crest and appreciated the care she received.

Marjorie will be missed by her brother, Dr. Roderick “Rod” (Carol) Krueger, MD of Sturgeon Bay; two nieces, Anneliese (Joseph) Kaiser of Kalamazoo, MI and Heidi (Thomas) Morris of Herndon, VA, and nephew, Benjamin (Anna) Krueger of St. Paul, MN; great-nephews and great-nieces, Nicholas and Johanna Kaiser; Caitlyn, Jack and Henry Morris; and Edie Krueger.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Marjorie will be laid to rest beside them at the Bayside Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol with a private committal by Rev. David Leistra. Her life will be celebrated this summer at the Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church at a date yet to be determined.

Memorials may be given in Marjorie’s name for the Parish Nurse Program at the Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church (836 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235).

    Meghan Elizabeth Theresa (Smith) Hanson, MD, 43 years, of Sheboygan, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, died March 22, 2024 at St. Nicholas Hospital Emergency Room after suffering an acute medical episode.

     Meghan was born April 2, 1980, in Sturgeon Bay the daughter of James R. Smith and Anne (Guelig) Smith. She was a voracious reader, adventurous traveler and also enjoyed RV camping with her husband, Ben. She loved animals, especially her labs and Weimaraner.

     Meghan excelled as a student at Sevastopol High School. She was an avid soccer player, first playing varsity soccer on the coed team at Sturgeon Bay, and then on the Sevastopol all-girls team, which she helped found under Title 19. She was also a talented multi-instrumentalist playing everything from piccolo to bassoon. She was awarded the John Philip Sousa Award in recognition of her superior musicianship and outstanding dedication. Meghan graduated from Sevastopol in 1998 as Valedictorian of her class, before attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison and receiving her undergraduate degree in Medical Microbiology and Immunology in 2002. A Brittingham Viking Scholar, she studied at the University of Oslo, Norway in 2001. She received her MD (Medical Doctor) from UW-Madison in 2006, and in 2011, she became a board-certified radiologist specializing in Diagnostic Radiology and Imaging.

     On June 19, 2004, she married Benjamin W. Hanson at S.S. Peter and Paul Church in Institute. Meghan’s career spanned 18 years. She had worked at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics as a physician and educator. Most recently, she was a Diagnostic Radiologist with Green Bay Radiology, based at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, where she held the position of Medical Director of Radiology and, later, Medical Staff President. She also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Meghan was a member of the American College of Radiology, American Roentgen Ray Society, Radiologic Society of North America and the Wisconsin Radiologic Society.

     Meghan was a vibrant yet humble person, as characterized by her kindness and compassion. Her personality was a blend of intelligence, humor, and generosity. With a quick wit and a sharp sense of sarcasm, Meghan always brought laughter. She was not only a great conversationalist, but also a wonderful listener, always ready to lend an ear without judgment.

     One of Meghan's greatest passions outside of medicine was travel, and she and Ben explored various corners of the world, including the rugged beauty of Iceland, and the wilderness of Alaska. They ventured across the United States and abroad, soaking in diverse cultures and experiences.

     In addition to her adventures abroad, Meghan found joy in simple pleasures and hobbies. She was an avid reader and always enjoyed a good book. Playing with her beloved dogs brought her immense happiness, and she cherished the companionship they provided. Meghan was also a cinephile, delighting in movies, and she also had a deep appreciation for listening to music. She and Ben also enjoyed trying different cuisines and also exploring new culinary experiences.

     Meghan's zest for life was evident in her diverse interests, compassionate nature, and adventurous pursuits. She embraced each day with enthusiasm, spreading joy and laughter wherever she went.

     Meghan is survived by her husband, Ben of Sheboygan, formerly of Sturgeon Bay; parents, Anne Smith of Sturgeon Bay, Jim and Heather Smith of Sturgeon Bay; siblings, Jessica Smith, Laura Smith, James (Ashley) Smith and nephew, Jonah; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William “Bill” (Jean) Hanson; brother-in-law, Lucas “Luke” Hanson; and her loving dogs, Lucy, Mia and Gus.

     A Memorial Mass will be held at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Matthew Rappl officiating. Committal rites will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Lenora (“Nora”) Louise (nee Flahive) Joseph, age 84, passed away peacefully in Chicago, Illinois on March 13, 2024. Nora was predeceased by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Robert (“Bob”) Joseph. Nora is survived by her five adoring children: Robert (“Bob”) [Liz] Joseph, Elizabeth (“Betsy”) Joseph, Jennifer (“Jenny”) [Edd] Lopez, James (“Jim”) [Jeannie] Joseph and Jason [Mary] Joseph as well as her ten beloved grandchildren: Jimmy Joseph, Jessica Joseph, Liam Lopez, Jason [Maddie] Joseph, Lilia Lopez, Lucy Joseph, Josh Joseph, Kelly Joseph, George Joseph and Katie Joseph. Nora graduated from Albany State College of Education and taught English and social studies in New York before raising her family in Hoffman Estates IL. Nora and Bob retired to Fish Creek, WI in 1995, where they enjoyed golfing at Maxwelton Golf Club, gardening, and dining at the many supper clubs throughout Door County. Nora, an avid reader, would go to the Fish Creek Library once a week with a large tote bag and check out as many books as would fit into the tote bag and return the following week, ready for more! Nora loved feeding the squirrels, chipmunks and birds that would frequent their large backyard. She had a passion for writing and art and was quite creative. Her favorite times were when her children and grandchildren would visit and gather together in her home. Their lovely blue house on Highland Road was filled to the brim with love. Nora and Bob moved back to the Chicagoland area in 2019. When Bob passed away, Nora was warmly welcomed into her daughter Betsy’s home where Betsy lovingly became Nora's primary caretaker. Nora's love will forever live on in the hearts of her children and grandchildren. Services will be private. Marion Lois Wery, 91, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on March 20, 2024, at Door County Medical Center.  She was born March 30, 1932, in Kewaunee County to Peter and Frances (Blahnik) Lauscher.

On June 30, 1954, she married Kenneth Wery at Holy Trinity Church in Casco.  She and her husband farmed in the Forestville area for many years.  Together they raised 7 children.   Her husband passed away Nov. 29, 1987. Marion was a long time and very active member of Holy Name of Mary Church in Maplewood. 

She is survived by 6 children, Debra (James) Nell, Diane Wery, Julie Cole, Nancy Anderson, Dennis Wery and David Wery; 7 grandchildren, Karen (Dan) Lipinski, Kevin (Alisha) Nell, Patricia Eicher, Jennifer Eicher, Chad (Caryn) Eicher, Anna Palazzo, Amy Palazzo and Meagan (Michael) Brull; 9 great-grandchildren; sister Rosemary Wegner; brother-in-law Francis Jadin; 2 sisters-in-law, Edith Lauscher and Rajah Notz; many nieces and nephews.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Mary Wery, 2 sisters, Josephine Lauscher and Sue Jadin; 2 brothers, Peter and Paul Lauscher; 2 sons-in-law Mark Cole and James Anderson.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with the Rev. Anthony Birdsall at 11:00 am on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Holy Name of Mary Church in Maplewood.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Friends may call at the Forbes Funeral Home on Sunday, March 24, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm with a prayer service scheduled for 6:30 pm.  Visitation will continue at the Forbes Funeral Home on Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am and then the family will process to church for mass.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Door CANcer Inc. in Marion’s name.

     LaVerne Klimek, 102 years old of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on March 12, 2024.

     She was born in Sturgeon Bay on January 27, 1922, to the late Urbain and Annie Allie. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Grade School and Sturgeon Bay High School class of 1940. She married Frank “Lefty” Klimek on June 26, 1945, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

     During World War II she worked at Leathem Smith shipyard. She also worked for Knaapen’s Bakery and the A&P store. She worked at the Peterson Memorial Pool for 24 years when she retired in 1988. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers, worked all the funeral dinners, and helped with the mailings at church.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 1995; son, Bruno; her parents; four brothers, Clayton “Klink”, Edwin “Ed”, Joseph “Joe”, Albert “Buddy”; and two sisters, Mary Ann Corcoran, Bernice Cinabro.

     She is survived by her son, William of Sturgeon Bay; daughter, Judy of Sturgeon Bay; daughter, Patsy (Charles) Reed of Woodbury, MN; three grandchildren, Rebecca (Alonzo Robinson) [and their children, Kyla and Lena], Joseph, and Mary Reed.

     The family would like to thank Unity Hospice nurses Kelsey, Angie and Wendy (for the exceptional care she gave the last five years), for their wonderful care of LaVerne.

Erna Jewel Colum 11/20/1931 Chicago, Illinois, 2/1/2024 St. Peter, Minnesota Precious Erna has passed on to Eternity. A few years ago and since, she made it clear that she knew by faith that Jesus was Who He said was: “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live, even if he dies.” John 11:25. Erna always said “I have had a good life”. She often said how fortunate she was to live with us and be close to her family. She requested “Please, no funeral for me… enjoy me while I’m here!”. So here is what we can give since there will be little other recognition as she humbly requested. Obviously those who knew her were the ones privileged as we think on how her intentions were truly selfless in so many ways. What a blessing to have her live with us! She made it to 92 in pretty good health and sometimes couldn’t believe it herself. Her strength and zeal for life was apparent to others, even upon first meeting her. She supported my father and high school sweetheart, Earl, through college with 3 jobs while living in a basement plagued with a half inch of water on the floor and a refrigerator on stilts! She walked from work with her wedding dress on a rainy day to the church to make it in time. She had me after 5 previous miscarriages. She rejoiced when realizing it is our spirits that are eternal that those 5 babies are waiting for her in heaven as a result of her faith and God's reliable love. Erna was all about making personal sacrifices to support her family. Self taught piano player, accomplished quilter, Fortune 500 chief auditor (no college) and she was voted “Most Versatile” in high school. What woman in her 40s buys a bustling high-end Door County restaurant waking up at 6:00am to bake a dozen cakes that would sell out daily and clean her motel rooms in Baileys Harbor on the Lake Michigan shoreline, open the restaurant for lunch and then sing karaoke after the kitchen closed at night? She also enjoyed frequently singing for standing room only at the Drake Hotel Blue Room downtown Chicago, The Long Grove Tavern ,The Hob Knob, and many other places and making stand-in appearances in movies. Earl loved going with to watch the enthusiastic crowds as Erna would sing lyrics by memory to 1000s of songs upon request. Rarely was there a song she didn’t know the words to from the 60s and earlier. One of her favorite and most entertaining songs was “Ring Them Bells”, as performed like Liza Minnelli. Erna talked and visited regularly with her remaining high school girlfriends into her 90s. One of her favorite things to do was get in a car with kids, Art and Jim, or her grandkids, Shayla, Nathan, Joshua, and Andrew and drive all over the country visiting historic sites, and the natural beauty of this land, often singing along the way, never knowing where she might stop. She also did this with her sister, Gladys, and cousin, Booty, into her 80s. Granddaughter, Shayla, commented, “ She showed me how to be a lady.” Erna was dressing her up and taking her to high-end places as a little girl. She reminded us of how great-grandson Mason, on his own, jumped to the icy driveway at age 5 cushioning her from a slippery fall to avoid injury before she hit the pavement. She loved watching her newest great-grandson, Ezra, with his big blue eyes, as he plays with trucks. She took pleasure in Andrew’s amazing musical abilities, Joshua’s gentle kindness, Nathan’s helpful strength and Hollywood smile. Her son, Jim’s, gentle spirit and rich baritone voice. She expressed gratitude towards Jim’s wife, Kim, for truly loving him. Erna treasured her time with her sister, Gladys, and husband, Stanton, niece, Beth, and nephew, Scott. She was especially close to Beth cherishing whatever time she could with her and took pride in her many accomplishments. Erna commented several times a week how her daughter- in-law, Karen, was really a daughter to her and loved her like that. Erna marveled at Karen’s own versatility, energy, and kindness, reminding her son, Art, how fortunate he was to have found her. She called her a “treasure beyond price.” In many ways, I did marry a girl like mom without even realizing it as I write this. The Green Bay Packers (formerly ACME Packers) was a big deal to her. Father, Art Schmaehl, my namesake, started the Green Bay Packers City League Team that formed the Green Bay Team we know today. There would likely be no Green Bay Packers today without Art, who scored the first touchdown in the NFL. (Sorry Vikings and Bears fans) I can wholeheartedly say mom literally laid her life down for me in so many ways. Amazingly I never witnessed a selfish moment I can think of. From the tough C-section with no anesthesia to save me, to putting me through 4 pre-schools that she would wait for the inevitable call to pick me up because I would deck whoever picked on me, to watching me gruel through gym class running the 220 and 440 always finishing last. She would always encourage me noting that at least I finished what I started. But she taught me to move forward in life, not looking back, no pity parties. This was hard on her, yet she knew it to be best for my future. As I think of how fortunate I am to have all these years with her close by, I realize how determined she was in making this 3lb kid who came into this challenging world who I am today. So thankful, so humbled as I think of all the things she let me experience so that I might have a real chance in a world that didn’t always look kindly on the struggles I was born with being 3 months premature. Karen and I are so thankful that we can look forward to celebrating eternity together with Erna one day, which is not too far for any of us. We see this as a joyful time. We’d love more than anything for you to join us in trusting the Lord. He is good indeed…all the time!

In the garden of his life, Michael “Mike” Hansen has tilled his last furrow and set sail on the ultimate voyage.  Born in Kenosha on August 29, 1958, he charted his course through 65 years of adventure before docking at the peaceful shore of Sturgeon Bay on March 10, 2024.

Mike’s roots ran deep, nourished by his love of the natural world and his childhood days on the farm.  A true Renaissance man with soil under his nails and sawdust in his hair, he cultivated joy in the kitchen and crafted his legacy with the tools of his many trades, from shipbuilding to constructing memories with his grandkids – his most precious projects.

A proud Southern Door High School Alum, Mike never missed the opportunity to share his knowledge and plant seeds of kindness and laughter in every encounter.

Survivors include 4 children, Amanda (Harold) Hermes of Green Bay, Christopher (Jin Bai) Hansen, Aaron Hansen, and Michelle Hansen, all of Sturgeon Bay; 12 grandchildren, Payton, Adrianna, Alessandra, Oscar, Owen, Chloe, Abigail, Christopher, Imani, Aaven, Evelyn, and Bethany; 4 brothers, Jim (Sue), Peter (Pam), Paul (Sue), George (Pam); 2 sisters, Jane (Larry) Jennerjohn and Julie Hansen; brother-in-law Clint Beth; former wife Karen Hansen, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Patricia Beth.

Family and friends are invited to gather and share a forest’s worth of stories at Forbes Funeral Home on Monday, March 18, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.  A prayer service will be held at 6:30 pm.  The grand ship of Mike’s life will be commemorated at Holy Name of Mary Church in Maplewood at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, where we will bid him farewell as he transitions from earthly orchard to the celestial seas.  Friends may also visit at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of mass.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

As we celebrate Mike’s evergreen spirit, let’s root ourselves in the happiness he harvested and remember, a life well lived is the best dish on the menu.

Loralee “Lori” Grace Holton, 82 of Sister Bay, formerly of Burr Ridge, IL, passed away unexpectedly with her husband by her side on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Door County Medical Center.

Lori was born on November 20, 1941 in Chicago, the daughter of the late Alfred and Bernice (Stowell) Schwegler. Her childhood was one of horseback riding, painting lessons at the Art Institute of Chicago and long walks with her grandfather through Lincoln Park. Lori attended Lincoln Park High School and was an active member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.

Dedication to others was a through line in her life. Lori spent precious years raising her children then never idle, became an avid volunteer. She worked as the Volunteer Coordinator at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL, was a Sunday school teacher, active in parent teacher organizations and was Literature Secretary for an international non-profit Christian organization.

Lori had a lifelong love for learning and was willing to try something new. She earned dual master’s degrees at the University of Illinois and Lewis National College in Evanston. She was a dedicated teacher and School Psychologist for over twenty years with the Highland Park school system before retiring from Naperville Central High School in Naperville.

On June 26, 1994, she married Ross Holton on the University of Chicago campus. She and her husband loved to travel, visiting over 40 countries. Lori enjoyed long distance walking, studied and practiced various yoga and meditation disciplines plus attended a wide range of spiritual retreats. Together they retired to Door County and became active members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Sister Bay where they found a supportive Christian community and lifelong friends. At St. Luke’s she was on the Vestry, Altar Guild and served communion to residents at the local nursing home. Lori was a member of the Philanthropic Education Organization (P.E.O) and volunteered at the Clearing Folk School in Ellison Bay.

The surviving family includes her husband, Ross; son, William Stenzel of Middlebury, VT [and his sons, Will, Ansel, and Sacha]; daughter, Leeann (Gary) Campana of Greensboro, GA [and their sons, Bryan (Amanda), Nicholas, and Nathan]; stepchildren, Delanie (Jon) Holton of Boulder, CO and Daniel (Nichole) Holton of L?na?i, HI; and great grandchildren, Olivia, Julian, London and Skylar Campana, Milo, Wyatt and Edie Holton. She is preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers.

A memorial service to celebrate Lori’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church, 11836 State Highway 42, Ellison Bay, WI 54210 with Mother Brit Frazier, rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, officiating. Arrivals begin after 10:00 a.m. with a lunch reception at noon.

Roger Charles Bahlert, 88, of the Town of Sevastopol, was called Home to be with the Lord, Monday night, March 4, 2024 at Sturgeon Bay Health Services.

He was born March 9, 1935 in the Town of Liberty Grove, the son of Raymond Edmund Bahlert and Lucy Mary (Hoffner) Bahlert. Roger grew up attending St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church in Baileys Harbor and Liberty Grade School. He graduated from Gibraltar High School with the class of 1953.

Roger enlisted to serve his country with the United States Army, entering into active service on June 20, 1957. He completed artillery school and was stationed at Fort Polk in Louisiana. Roger was honorably discharged from the Army on June 19, 1959 with the rank of Specialist (SP4) and earned the designation of Sharpshooter (Rifle M-1 .30 Cal). He remained on Reserve status with the Army until June 19, 1963.

Roger married Jean Jeanette Becker on January 20, 1962 at St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in Baileys Harbor. They resided together in the Town of Sevastopol.

Roger was an auto mechanic service parts manager. He was initially employed with Ballo Motors in Sturgeon Bay, Kestner Ford, Dick Bosman Ford, and then Bill Boettcher Automotive (Chevrolet) until his retirement.

He and Jean were blessed with over 57 years of marriage. Jean died November 19, 2019.

Roger was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute. He liked spending time tending to his vegetable garden at home. Working with cars throughout his life, Roger had a passion for old cars. Mercury and Ford were his favorite models.

Roger will be missed by his daughter, Lisa (fiancé, Pete Peot) Englebert of Sturgeon Bay; sister, Terri (Rod) Wagner of Egg Harbor; best friend, Jim McKuen; other relatives; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister-in-law, Susan (Wayne) Jarman; and other relatives.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute with Fr. Matthew Rappl as celebrant. Military honors by the United States Army and V.F.W. Post #3088 will follow at the church. Roger will be laid to rest in Little Sister Cemetery in the Town of Liberty Grove, beside his wife, Jean.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with a parish wake service to conclude the evening at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:40 a.m.

Bruce Ruben Tebon, 77, of Sturgeon Bay, WI, passed away unexpectedly on February 19, 2024, in Phoenix, AZ. Bruce was born on September 4, 1946, in Escanaba, MI to the late Albert Tebon and Priscilla (Vertz) Tebon. After spending his early years in the UP, the family moved to Sturgeon Bay. He graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1966 and was drafted into the US Army where he defended his country for two years with honor and pride. He received a Sharpshooter medal and was a Motor Transport Operator in support of combat operations.

After the Vietnam War, he returned to his small-town roots where he raised his family. Prior to retiring in 2004 at the age of 58, Bruce dedicated 20 years of his professional career to Peterson Builders prior to moving into insurance sales. As a great storyteller, he often shared stories with his children and friends of his many antics over the years. Bruce enjoyed fishing, scuba diving, golf, and traveling. His travels took him to the Hawaiian Islands and on several memorable cruises with family to warm destinations. After retiring, he spent his winters in Apache Junction, AZ, where he made many great friends.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Ruthann Tebon, his children Christine (Tim) Brogli and Denise (John) Kaldor, sisters Sherry Hanson and Sally (Tom) Teich, grandchildren Amanda (Mark) Kluth, Alexander Wilmanns, Katherine Brogli, and Cory Berken. He is also survived by his stepmother Susie Tebon and stepsisters Wendy (Kurt) Foth, Brenda (Steve) Abrahamson, Rene (Doug) Forsyth, great grandchildren Emma and Carter Kluth, and step-children Carol (Steve) Peterson, Sandy (Jeff) Bryant, Daniel (Sara) Laurent, Leah (Joe) Salazar, and Debbie (Brian) Bain. He is further survived by 14 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Albert Tebon and Priscilla Tebon, and brother Terry Tebon.

A service to celebrate Bruce’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on March 15, 2024, at Forbes Funeral Home, 319 W. Spruce St, Sturgeon Bay.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home on Friday.  Burial with military honors will be held at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Brussels after the service on Friday.

His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. “When you feel a little lonely and all you want is me, just place a hand upon your heart and you know that’s where I’ll be.”

Mark Joseph Pinchart, 85, of Casco, passed away peacefully at home in the 

presence of hisfamily on Friday, March 1, 2024. Mark was born on November 15, 

1938, in Euren to the late Peter and Emily (Kinnard) Pinchart. 

Mark graduated from Casco High School in 1956. On October 24, 1964, he 

married Mae Romuald at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Champion. He was a 

lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lincoln, and a member of the 

Catholic Order of Foresters. He spent 34 years working as a welder at Kewaunee 

Engineering, retiring in 2000. 

Mark was a polka connoisseur! He enjoyed watching Mollie B, Polka! Polka! 

Polka! and Polka Joe. He enjoyed NASCAR, cutting lawn and blowing snow on his John Deere, Gator rides, and meeting his friends at the local watering hole. Mark was a Green Bay Packers fan, holding season tickets for many decades. He also attended the infamous Ice Bowl. 

A quiet, reserved man, Mark had few hobbies in life, but enjoyed many simple things. Spending time with his family and friends enjoying an old fashion was important to him. This was especially true these past few years as his mobility became more challenging. 

Mark issurvived by his wife of 59 years, Mae, and his children and theirspouses: Dale (Kaori) Pinchart, Julie (Mark) Welter, Dan (Diane) Pinchart, Jacque (Jason) Wiese, and Jody (Greg) Veeser; grandchildren Kevin Pinchart, Michelle (Brendan) Watson, Erin (Casey) Beyer, Stephanie and Rachel Welter, Ashly (Gary) Balza, Justin (friend Chantel) Pinchart, Emily (Bryson) Madden, Lucy, Sam and Andrew Wiese, Maegan (friend Joe) and Jeremy Glander, and Grant and Addie Veeser. He is also survived by 12.875 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, his Godchildren Mary Voyles and Kelly Pinchart, and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Emily, his father-in-law and mother-in-law George and Eunice Romuald, his sister and brother-in-law Magdalene (Hamlin) Boucher, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marie (Wilfred) DeGrave. 

Visitation for Mark will be held at Kinnard Funeral Home in Casco on Wednesday, March 6th from 4pm-8pm, with evening prayer service at 7pm. Visitation will continue at the funeral home Thursday morning, March 7th from 9am-10:30am. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lincoln with Father Dennis Drury officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Carol Berglund, 86, of rural southern Door County passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at her winter residence in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Carol was born December 24, 1937 in Manitowoc, WI to Arvin and Loretta Zahorik. She was an inaugural 8th grade graduate of St. Boniface School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1956. On July 12, 1958, she married William Berglund. For many years, Carol drove school bus for both Manitowoc Public School District and Southern Door School District. She was known as the "cool" bus driver. Carol was a charter member of the Door County Master Gardeners Association and served as their Vice President in 2013. She shared her love of gardening throughout her life. For many years, Carol was a volunteer and exhibitor at the Door County Fair. She was quite proud of her extensive collection of horticulture blue ribbons. Carol was also an advocate for the performing arts. She was a volunteer for the Weidner Center in Green Bay and also Peninsula Players in Door County. Carol is survived by her husband Bill, brother John Zahorik, children Eva (Michael) Seal, Mark (Judi) Berglund, John Berglund, grandchildren Mason (Stephanie Schwenke) Berglund, Levi Berglund, Jonathon (Elizabeth) Seal, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law Arlene and Ed Trochelle, brother and sister-in-law Earl and Beverly Zahorik, sister-in law Lois Zahorik, and daughter-in-law Suzanne Berglund. Carol was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She had a wonderful smile and a quick wit. A celebration of life will be planned for early summer 2024.
