An 83-year-old Sturgeon Bay woman was killed Monday night after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing State Highway 57 in the Town of Sevastopol.
The Door County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the crash at approximately 7:53 p.m. near County Road P.
According to the initial investigation, a 2025 Chrysler Pacifica was traveling north on Highway 57 when it struck Erika May, who was crossing the highway and walking east toward a parking lot.
May was transported to Door County Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
The Pacifica was driven by a 72-year-old woman from Ferndale, Washington. The driver and three passengers in the vehicle were not injured.
Highway 57 between County Road P and the middle split of State Highways 42 and 57 was closed for several hours while authorities investigated the crash. Traffic was detoured around the scene.
The Door County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Sturgeon Bay Fire Department, Sevastopol Emergency Medical Responders and Door County Emergency Services.
The crash remains under investigation. The sheriff’s office said no further information is being released at this time.
