A little more carbon's being cleaned out of the air, after 72 trees and bushes were planted in eastern Egg Harbor on Thursday, by the crew members of the Door County Parks department and volunteers of the Climate Change Coalition of Door County.
Black cherries, white and yellow birch, aspen, sugar maples, and serviceberries in a 5 gallon size were planted, fenced, and will be watered by County Parks crew members. The area is referred to as the Horseshoe Bay Pasture, and is part of Murphy Park.
Funding for this tree planting came from a County Conservation Aid grant, money the county can apply to receive from the State, for use on fish and wildlife habitat projects.
Parks employees used augers to dig the holes prior to the volunteer work day on Oct. 8, due to the compaction of the pasture as a parking lot for community events, and Door County's notorious rocks.
The trees were planted to the west of a nature trail that follows the base of the bluff from County G north to Horseshoe Bay Farm.
