In the evening of Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the Lord brought Carol Ebert safely home to heaven, at home surrounded by her family with Henry holding her hand. Carol June Ebert, who very recently celebrated her 88th birthday, was born September 28, 1938 in Algoma, the daughter of Elmer and Myrtle (Harmann) Mickelson. Carol graduated from Algoma High School in 1956, where she was proudly a part of the "hard as nails, tough as bricks we're the class of '56". For a short time following graduation, she moved to Milwaukee and worked at Schlitz Brewery before returning to the area to work in the Kewaunee County Treasurer's Office, where she worked for 45 years until her retirement. On August 30, 1958, she married Henry J. Ebert, whom she had known since grade school, after waiting for his return from military service. She transitioned from city girl to farmer's wife, proudly working "three jobs" while continuing her work at the Treasurer's Office, raising two children, in addition to milking cows on their dairy farm morning and night. They recently celebrated 68 years together and were often the last couple remaining during anniversary dances at weddings for many years. Carol was a special person - kind, generous, and always thinking of others. She enjoyed baking, working in her flower gardens, and watching Wheel of Fortune. She was a faithful and ever-present member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Algoma. She also loved music of many types, including playing in the church bell choir. She fondly remembers her years as a baton twirler in high school. But most of all, she cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, who knew her as "Grandma on the Farm". She is survived by her husband, Henry; two children, Suzie (Steve) Sutherland of Peshtigo, Randy (Renee) Ebert of Algoma; two grandchildren, Jordan, Whitney (Logan) Ebert-Maulick; great-granddaughter, Shaelyn Britney-Ebert Maulick; step-granddaughters, Nikkee Dionne, Erica Sutherland; step-great grandsons, Kyler Kruse, Darren, Jaccob Dionne; step-great-great granddaughter, Kimberlee Dionne. Preceding her in death were her parents, Elmer and Myrtle Mickelson; granddaughter, Britney Ebert; infant sister, Donna Mae Mickelson; step-mother, Florence Mickelson; cousins; sisters-in-law, Betty (Norman) Minker, Marie (Jack) Rode; parents-in-law, Henry Sr. and Viola (Hoffman) Ebert. Friends may visit Schinderle Funeral Home on Monday, October 12, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Algoma on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m., which will be live streamed on St. Paul's Facebook Live. After the service the burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, with a funeral lunch to follow.
Carol was known for sending cards with typed notes of support to so many and bringing a meal to those in need. So in lieu of flowers or gifts, to carry out her thoughtfulness, we ask you to visit family or a friend in need, enjoy a meal and offer support. The family would like to give a special thank you to Rachel with Compassus Hospice and Palliative Care for her compassion and empathetic care of Carol during her final week. "We are especially grateful to Suzie, for the extraordinary love and care she gave her Mom in her final months. As both a nurse and a loving family member, she gave so much of herself to help her Mom feel comfortable and loved. Her devotion meant more to our family than words can express. Carol, Momma, Mom, Grandma, we will miss your smile, your quick wit, your baking, your thoughtfulness, and much more. We will carry your love with us until we meet again. Love you forever and always." The Schinderle Funeral Home, Algoma, was entrusted with the arrangements for Carol and her family.
