Goat replaces cherry for Sister Bay New Year's Eve celebration

Category: Local News

With the popular Cherry Drop event heading to Sturgeon Bay for New Year's Eve, Sister Bay is relying on one of its icons to welcome 2027.

Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant and Butik will host its inaugural New Year's Eve Goat Drop on Dec. 31. Instead of the ball in New York City or the cherry of previous celebrations, an illuminated goat will grace the sky above the Stabbur Beer Garden before dropping to ring in the new year.

“We love traditions in Door County, but every tradition has to start somewhere,” Al Johnson's co-owner Rolf Johnson said. “We hope years from now people will be saying they remember coming to Sister Bay for the very first Goat Drop.”

The announcement comes ahead of the village's Sister Bay Fall Fest, scheduled for Oct. 16-18, and Capture the Spirit, scheduled for Nov. 27-28.
