A two-vehicle crash in the town of Egg Harbor closed a portion of State Highway 42 near a popular business Thursday morning.
The crash occurred shortly after 9:45 a.m. near one of the driveways to Wood Orchard Market along Highway 42 near Charmant Way. According to the crash report, a 73-year-old Peoria, Illinois, man was attempting to leave the Wood Orchard Market parking lot when his vehicle was struck by a northbound vehicle on Highway 42.
The collision caused the Peoria man's vehicle to roll over, while the other vehicle, driven by a 52-year-old Sturgeon Bay woman, veered into the southbound lane. The Peoria man told a responding deputy he did not believe the oncoming vehicle was as close as it was, while the Sturgeon Bay woman said she attempted to brake but could not avoid the collision.
While the woman was traveling alone, the man had three passengers, including a 74-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman from Jasper, Georgia, and a 72-year-old woman from Peoria, Illinois. All five people involved in the crash were transported to hospitals in Sturgeon Bay and Green Bay.
The Peoria man was cited for failure to yield the right of way. The crash closed Highway 42 in both directions for more than an hour before the roadway reopened shortly after 11 a.m.
