Jeffrey Kain, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away peacefully at the age of 57, following a short battle with cancer. His father, Jerry, and sister, Stacey, were at his side. Jeff grew up in Sturgeon Bay and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1987, where he excelled as a student and was active in the music department. Jeff will be remembered by his family, friends, and colleagues for the life he shared with those around him and for the many memories he created throughout his years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Jeff is survived by his father, Jerry Kain, and his sister, Stacey Kain. He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Kain. Jeff was employed as an IT team leader at Sweetwater Sound LLC, where he was respected not only for his exceptional technical knowledge and skill, but also for the kindness and optimism he brought to the people around him. A colleague’s words to the family capture Jeff especially well: “What made Jeff so respected wasn't only his technical skill, though he had plenty of it. It was the way he combined that expertise with genuine kindness. He believed in people. He was optimistic even when things were hard, and he had a way of seeing the best in everyone around him. That combination is rare, and everyone who worked with him felt it. He was the kind of person who would drop whatever he was working on to help someone else, and he often gave up his own nights and weekends to make sure things kept running smoothly for the team. He never made that sacrifice feel like a burden. He just showed up, again and again, because that's who he was.” Those qualities—his expertise, kindness, belief in others, and ability to see the best in people—were a meaningful part of who Jeff was and the lasting impression he left on those fortunate enough to know him. In keeping with Jeff’s wishes, a private family service will be held. In Jeff’s memory, a memorial has been established at Sturgeon Bay High School, 1230 Michigan St., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235, for the Robert Nichol Auditorium. Jeff’s memory will live on through his family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his wry sense of humor and the twinkle in his eyes.
