Mathilde Marie Hannemann, 96, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away September 25, 2026, at Sturgeon Bay Health Services. She was born January 18, 1930, at Leasum Hospital which was on the corner of 3rd Ave. and Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late Ole and Elizabeth (Hansen) Bergsland. Mathilde was a proud graduate of Sturgeon Bay High School. In 1950, she met Richard Hannemann I at a Hainesville Sunday School picnic. He proposed a week later and the two were married on February 18, 1950. They enjoyed over 74 years of marriage until Richard preceded her in death on August 11, 2024. Mathilde and Richard operated a dairy farm on Larson Rd. in Nasewaupee from the date of their marriage until 1972 when they moved to Salona Road, east of Maplewood, where they continued to farm for the rest of their lives. She was a very hard worker and loved raising chickens and milking cows on the farm. In addition to farming, Mathilde worked for Amity Leather and Leathem Smith Lodge. Mathilde was a very faithful Christian woman. She was the oldest continuous member of Hainesville Lutheran Church, for 96 years, where she sang in the choir (and knew many hymns by heart) and was very active in the Ladies Aid. Mathilde was also a member of the Homemaker’s Club and the Eastern Star. Being 100 percent Norwegian, Mathilde was very proud of her heritage and able to speak fluent Norwegian since childhood. Most of all, she treasured the time she spent raising her children and the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by four children, Sheila (Don) Dipprey, Comstock, WI; Randi (Randy) Tassoul, Brussels; Rick (Vicki) Hannemann and Gary Hannemann all of Sturgeon Bay; 9 grandchildren, Michael Peters, Marcia Willming, Ryan Peters, Cindy Boggess, Lisa Dipprey, Katie Wagner, Matthew Tassoul, Markus Tassoul, and Derek Hannemann; 9 great-grandchildren, Remington Peters, Cambria Willming, Nathan Boggess, Andrew Boggess, Charles Wagner, Lexi Tassoul, Beckett Tassoul, Briggs Tassoul, and Ashlynn Tassoul; son-in-law, Dave Peters, Sturgeon Bay; sister-in-law, Bonnie Hannemann, Miami, FL; nephew, Scott Hannemann, Miami, FL; 2 great-nieces, Maddie and Lexi; and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hannemann I; a daughter, Darlene Peters; her parents, Ole and Elizabeth Bergsland, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kasper and Eleanor Hannemann, and a brother-in-law, Dr. Charles Hannemann. Visitation for Mathilde will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Hainesville Lutheran Church from 10:00 AM until the time of a memorial service at 11:00 AM. Officiating at the memorial service will be Rev. Mary Lou Plummer. Mathilde will be laid to rest at Hainesville Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Hainesville Lutheran Church.
