Luxemburg Police promotes fraud awareness

Category: Local News

Agencies like the Luxemburg Police Department want you to take extra precautions when it comes to protecting your financial assets. Billions of dollars are lost to scammers every year, with investment scams, targeted emails, and tech support scams among the most frequent ways people lose their money.

In Wisconsin, government impersonation, utility scams and toll road text scams are among the most common. Even rural communities like Luxemburg can be affected by online scams, with $1.1 million extorted from unsuspecting residents since January 2025.

Luxemburg Police Department Officer Courtney Dorner hosted a fraud awareness seminar Monday, highlighting the importance of stopping, hanging up, verifying and reporting suspicious activity to prevent you or someone else from being scammed.

In addition to calling your local police department, you are encouraged to contact the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection’s Bureau of Consumer Protection and the Wisconsin Statewide Intelligence Center if you believe you are being scammed.
