Algoma’s Crescent Beach will be filled with visitors once again this weekend, but the focus will be on the skies. Organized by the Friends of Crescent Beach and the Algoma Chamber of Commerce, Soar on the Shore is scheduled for its 12th edition Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with professional and amateur kiters showcasing their kites for the public to enjoy. There will be plenty for people to do on the ground as well, with the Door County Maritime Museum, Algoma Venture Academy, Kewaunee County 4-H, plein air artists and other organizations offering activities. The event is modeled after similar events in Wisconsin, such as the Mead Kite Festival in Milladore, the Frank Mots International Kite Festival in Milwaukee and the former Kites Over Lake Michigan Festival in Two Rivers.
